Math Plus Warm Up: Ice Cream

Give one or two warm up problems at beginning of every math class. Encourage students' discussions and be open minded to different possible answers.

Answer:
After putting their money together, Mike and Maggie were 5 cents short for one ice cream, which is the same amount of additional money that Mike needed for one ice cream. This means that Maggie did not have any money, so the cost of one ice cream is 90 cents (the amount of money that Maggie needed to buy an ice cream).
